Free internal waves in a two-dimensional vertically inhomogeneous stratified flow are considered in the Boussinesq approximation with account of the Earth's rotation. The equation for the amplitude of the vertical velocity of a fixed mode of internal waves has complex coefficients; therefore, the eigenfunction and the wave frequency are complex. The imaginary part of frequency is small and can be both positive and negative. For this reason, both weak damping and weak strengthening of the wave are possible depending on the wavenumber and the mode number. The vertical wave momentum fluxes are nonzero and can be greater than the corresponding turbulent fluxes.
