In this paper, we investigate the effect of outbreaks of Arctic air on changes in sea surface temperature in the areas of the North subpolar hydrological front as well as variations in mean daily values of the North Atlantic Oscillation index. We introduce a new technique for detection of Arctic air outbreaks applicable for identification of these phenomena in the areas of baric depressions such as the Icelandic Low. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
